The Newport Street project was undertaken in 2017. Eight apartments were constructed in a mixture of conversion, extension and new build.
Formerly a commercial office building, the second and third floors were converted into one bedroomed apartments. A mansard roof structure, utilising a steel frame and timber shell provided two further one bedroomed apartments. A new build coach house was also built over the existing car park, to form two new two bedroomed apartments with parking underneath.
The scheme required a structural design, with supporting calculations to allow the steel frame to be installed. The timber frame was then built around this, with new services supplying the new apartments. Once the scaffolding was able to be removed, a new build coach house structure was built on the former car park, which adjoined the existing structure.
Despite a somewhat challenging build, the customer was satisfied as the the project was completed with a gross development value in excess of £1.25m.
Take a look at some of the photos below, taken before, during and after the build.
